No Facility Inspection Policy

Reasons why we say no to facility inspections for surrenders, adoptions, donations, and boarding.
Bellevue Cavy Critters practices a No Facility Inspection Policy meaning we do not allow any unapproved personnel to inspect our facility.

It is often implied that facilities that do not allow inspections have something to hide however, there are several valid reasons why our facility has a right to refusal policy in place, none of which are regarding inadequate care or poor living conditions, rather it is in place for the safety and wellbeing of our family and fosters. This policy is to inform you of those reasons in greater detail.
  • Risk of Disease
We have no control of infectious agents that may be carried on you or your family. This puts our guinea pigs at great risk of being exposed to outside illnesses. We can better control and minimize this risk by denying access.

  • Safety Liability
We cannot guarantee your safety while at our facility and want to reduce the risk of liability if you were to get injured while on our property. This includes falling, cutting yourself, getting bit or scratched.

  • Inexperienced Visitors
We know some of our visitors are experienced guinea pig owners but we cannot vouch for you and therefore must hold everyone to the same limitations in our facility.

  • Risk of Strangers
Although we have safety precautions in place, this is still our home and family in which we expose ourselves to the potential risk of dangerous people. Allowing a stranger to inspect our home leaves a bad feeling as we can’t turn a blind eye to the chance of robbery, threats, or attacks.

  • Unruly Children
Although every parent loves their child, occasionally things can get out of hand and become uncontrollable or intolerable. Although you may have certain boundaries and expectations for your child, they may not meet our expectations or boundaries. We never want to embarrass you or your child so this policy is in place to protect you from the possible risk of being asked to leave.

  • Guinea Pigs Can Be Easily Spooked
Some of our guinea pigs are from severe neglect cases and may not feel comfortable with fast movements, loud noises, poking fingers through cages, children screeching, etc. We like to control the situation by not allowing visitors near the guinea pigs due to how fearful they may be.

  • Shopping Mentality
We do not support window shopping for a guinea pig. Since we are appointment based, we ask that you preselect the guinea pig(s) you would like to adopt. This also allows us to better minimize any upset caused by seeing another guinea pig you like that you did not preselect that may no longer be available.

  • We Value Our Time
Although we love showing off our fosters, we appreciate serious inquiries only as we have a lot of tasks to accomplish each day in order to care for our fosters, help piggies in need and be with our families. We work very hard and although our guinea pigs are cute and soft, we are not a petting zoo.

  • Ill Practiced Animal Right Activists
Unfortunately, some animal right activists have poor practice. From misinformation, misconception, or malpractice, we won’t put ourselves at risk of being reported for false accusations from someone who doesn’t agree with how we operate. Activists posing as buyers with intent to inspect our facility is highly frowned upon. Depending on the activist, something very small can be enough to report false information of poor conditions causing possible search and seize warrants, plans to steal the guinea pigs, or destruction of our property. Since we also care for pregnant guinea pigs and babies, anti-breeding activists may not be informed properly about our anti-breeding policies and think we are a breeder which can make us a target.
Bellevue Cavy Critters ensures the safety and quality of life while in our care. Our facility meets all city regulations and requirements of sanitation and living conditions. These guinea pigs are our priority and we work long and hard to provide them with the very best. We hope you understand this policy.
